Organize items with lines

Connectors are formal lines for flowcharts, org charts, and professional diagrams. Choose straight, curved, or elbow (right-angle) lines with optional arrowheads.

Add Connectors

From the Shelf

On iPadOS or macOS, open the shelf on the left side of the screen. On iPhone, the shelf slides up from the bottom.

1. Add a Connector: Tap the connector item in the shelf to add it to the board.
2. Attach the Ends: Drag each end to an item. The endpoints automatically connect to the item’s border.

Connection Handles (iPad/Mac)

The fastest way to create connections is with the overlay controls and connection handles:

1. Enable Connector Mode: Tap the link button in the overlay controls (top-right corner of the board). The button fills in when active.
2. Set the Connection Type: Tap the type label next to the link button to toggle between “Connector” and “String”. Make sure it says “Connector”.
3. Select an Item: Tap the item you want to connect from. Four arrow handles appear around it.
4. Drag a Connection: Drag from any arrow handle toward another item. The connector snaps to the target item’s edge.

Connect Two Selected Items

Select two items, then tap the pin button in the toolbar. The connection type (string or connector) is determined by the setting in board settings or the overlay controls.

Edit Connectors

Select a connector to access its properties:

• Line Type: Straight, curved, or elbow (right-angle).
• Color and Width: Customize the connector’s appearance.
• End Styles: Arrow, circle, or none for each end.
• Line Style: Solid, dashed, or dotted.
• Text Boxes: Add labels and drag them to any position along the connector.

Curved Connectors

Select a curved connector and drag the center control point to adjust the curve’s shape.

Elbow Connectors

Elbow connectors create right-angle paths between items. As you drag, the connector automatically snaps to optimal pin points on the target item.

Tips

• Drag from an Existing Connector: Long-press the end of a connector to drag out another one.
• Duplicate with the Same Style: Press Shift-Command-N to duplicate a connector with the same style.
• Automate: Use shortcuts to automate adding connectors to boards.
