Change a board's settings

Every board has properties you can tune to fit the project at hand. Appearance and size settings apply only to the board you’re working on; the rest are universal and persist across all boards.

Board-Specific Settings

These settings apply only to the current board, so you can customize each one for a specific project or presentation.

Board Appearance

• Background Tile: Choose from a variety of background tiles to give your board a unique look.
• Background Color: Set the board’s background with a color picker.
• Grid: Select a grid style for the board’s background to help with alignment.
• Hide Photo Border: Remove the white border around photos on the board.
• Hide Shadows: Hide drop shadows on items for a flatter appearance.
• Lock Board: Secure the board with a passcode or biometrics. Set a passcode in app settings first.

Board Size

• Width: Adjust the width of the current board, in pixels.
• Height: Adjust the height of the current board, in pixels.

Universal Settings

These settings apply globally to every board, keeping behavior consistent across projects.

Media Quality

Control the file size and quality of media imported to all boards:

• Video Quality: Set the compression level for imported videos.
• JPEG Quality: Set the compression level for imported JPEG images.

Connect Items

• Hold and Drag: Choose the connection type (string or connector) created when you touch and hold an item and drag to another.
• Connect Items: Choose the connection type (string or connector) created by the connect button in the toolbar.

General

• Drop Text: Control how text dragged, dropped, or copied to the board is handled. The “Ask” setting prompts you each time for more control.
• Show Drawer (iPad only): Show or hide the side drawer for quick access to items.
• Show Guides: Toggle alignment guides to help position items precisely.
• Show Curls: Show occasional curled bottom corners on sticky notes and note cards. Curls are enabled by default, vary between items, and remain consistent when you reopen a board.
• Auto-Expand Board While Dragging: Grow the board automatically when you drag items near the edge.
• Search Archived Boards: Include archived boards in search results.
• Edit Items When Added: Open items for editing immediately when they’re added to the board.

Frame

• Show Frames: Add a decorative frame around boards.
• Frame Style: Choose from six frame styles — Classic, Walnut, Oak, Gallery Black, Gallery White, and Gold. The two gallery styles include a clean inner mat, just like a framed print. Your choice applies everywhere frames appear: open boards, home-screen thumbnails, and boards nested inside other boards.

Pins

Pins are rendered with Metal and relight dynamically as you pan around the board, so they catch the light like real hardware.

• Show Pins: Toggle decorative push pins on board items.
• Pin Style: Choose between push pin and map pin appearance.
• Pin Color: Pick blue, green, red, yellow, purple, or white.

Markdown Table Colors

• Show Colors: Toggle table header and alternating row colors. Turn this off to render plain tables.
• Table Header: Choose the header background color. Default: #ebebeb.
• Table Row: Choose the alternating row background color. Default: #f7f7f7.
