Add arrows

Add and edit items to a board /Add arrows

Add arrow labels to point at and highlight items on your board.

Arrows are text labels with a pointer shape — rotate one to point at whatever needs attention. Like labels, arrows are sticky and move with the items they’re placed on.

Add an Arrow

On iPadOS or macOS, open the shelf on the left side of the screen. On iPhone, the shelf slides up from the bottom. Then:

  1. Add an Arrow: Tap the arrow item in the shelf to add it to the board.
  2. Edit the Arrow: Edit the text, then adjust fonts, sizes, and colors. You can also style text with Markdown.
  3. Position and Rotate: Drag the arrow onto an item to make it stick, then rotate it to point at what you want to highlight.

Tips

  • Create Similar Items: Press Shift-Command-N to quickly create a similar item.
  • Connect Items: On iPad/Mac, enable connector mode (the link button in the overlay controls), select an item, then drag from the arrow handles that appear. Or select two items and tap the pin button in the toolbar. See Organize items with lines for details.
  • Drag and Drop or Paste: Add items by dragging and dropping or pasting text. In the board settings, you can control which items are created when you drop or paste text — use the Ask setting for more control. Learn about drag and drop on iPadOS from Apple Support.
  • Automation: Add arrows to boards automatically with Shortcuts actions.
